Ring to Become Federal Property

Despite its prestige and likely significant value, the ring will not remain in President Trump’s personal possession. Under U.S. federal law, gifts presented by foreign governments or foreign entities to federal officials that exceed the allowable value threshold—currently set at $480—must be surrendered to the U.S. government. Such gifts are generally transferred to the National Archives or another designated federal repository for preservation.

The AWDC did not disclose the monetary value of the diamond-encrusted ring.
